DePaul Family and Social Medicine Residency Program
Listening to you, caring for you.

We are dedicated to providing excellent health care to the underserved and to training Family Physicians who share that vision.

Social Justice Medicine

As an academic program we strive to understand structural and pervasive social elements of health disparity in our world and we work to train future physician leaders in the movement for Social Justice from a healthcare perspective.  We are committed to a goal of building a more equitable, just and compassionate future for all people.

Teaching Health Center based Family and Social Medicine Residency Program

We have 11 health centers located throughout the Greater New Orleans and surrounding areas that provide primary and preventative health services that address the needs of the total individual—body, mind, and spirit.

‘Clinic First’ Model of Resident Education

We value Family Physicians and make ambulatory training a top priority. Our high-performing treatment clinics are the foundation for our residency program and we strive to enhance ambulatory learning experiences in a Teaching Health Center environment.

Community Partnerships

We partner with like-minded academic and community-based hospitals serving the greater New Orleans area, and with community organizations and leaders who share our vision of a more just and equitable future for our patients.

Evidence-based, Patient-centered, Team-based approach to Healthcare

As a Medical Home we utilize a healthcare delivery model that actively engages patients in their own healthcare while coordinating efforts among multiple healthcare disciplines across various settings of care to meet the needs of our patients in achieving high quality outcomes.  We train Family Physicians who understand their role as physician leaders of integrated care teams.

Compassionate Healthcare

We are driven by our mission to deliver high quality care that is compassionate and appreciates the patient, and their place within their family and community.

Population Health Management

By identifying the healthcare gaps in our community, we employ strategies to support key populations in achieving improved health outcomes. Our residents gain a wealth of knowledge and experience in understanding managing patient care needs at the population level.

Diversity

In appreciation of the multicultural diversity of New Orleans, we value the lived experience of our patients by providing unbiased and respectful health care to all.  We believe diversity makes the world better and helps us to understand our shared humanity.

Community Engagement

While embracing a willingness to serve and learn from those in our community and our patients, we nurture the physician’s commitment to respond to community needs.

Scholarship

While encouraging physicians in their pursuit of innovative and multi-disciplinary approaches, as well as inter-professional collaboration.  The scholarly activity of our faculty and residents emphasizes social barriers to care and structural elements of health disparities as well as strategies physicians can use to alleviate these social ills.

Physician Empowerment

With a progressive and innovative curriculum, we allow physicians to find their niche through curricular enhancements and specialized skill set training while promoting personal accountability to themselves and others.  Our curriculum features longitudinal training experiences that align with the life cycle and which provides the resident plenty of time for self directed learning and personalized learning experiences.

Well-being

In recognizing that optimal performance and the ability to deliver quality care to patients is linked to the physical, mental, and emotional health of the healthcare provider, we prioritize self-care and peer support.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

DePaul Community Health Center (DCHC) values and welcomes diversity. Diversity is our unique differences that help build a fair society that allows everyone equal opportunities. It brings people together, and their perspectives, and generates ideas to help create stronger bonds among individuals while strengthening organizations. It is about accepting and embracing all, regardless of race, religion, political views, sexual orientation, or one’s lifestyle while acknowledging that everyone can bring something unique to the table. Our program focuses on helping everyone feel included, by unlocking the full set of benefits that diversity can bring through opportunities, growth, education, and training.

DCHC’s Family Medicine Residency Program strives to sustain an inclusive environment where everyone receives respect, fairness, and feels safe and secure. DCHC acknowledges varying perspectives and identities and understanding how others’ experiences contribute to decision-making and working together which can lead to growth. While discovering values, commonalities, similarities, and differences, and encouraging collaboration. Inclusivity recognizes the wisdom of intentionally listening and learning from each other for both personal and professional development.

We are committed to diversity

We honor our commitment to diversity and social justice through our relationships with all, the community we serve, faculty, staff, residents, providers, and others.

  • We offer training in unconscious biases
